ASSESSMENT FORMAT
- Year 12
Unit 1: Nutritional Needs Across the Life Stages –25% Written exam (1 hr 30) You will need an in-depth understanding of the properties and functions of nutrients and how dietary requirements vary across different life stages.
Unit 2: Developing Practical Food Production Skills – 25% NEA (approx. 11.5 hrs)
You will apply theoretical knowledge in a hands-on environment, learning advanced food preparation techniques while considering planning preparing, cooking and evaluating dishes for a target audience with consideration of nutritional value and dietary needs.
- Year 13
Unit 3: Principals of food hygiene and food safety– 25% Written exam (1hr 30) You will gain essential knowledge in food safety, microbiology and regulatory requirements. It introduces fundamental concepts related to foodborne illnesses, hazard analysis and industry standards.
Unit 4: Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems – 25% NEA (approx. 12 hrs) You will develop research and investigative skills, mirroring scientific methodologies used in university-level courses. You will learn how to formulate hypotheses, design and conduct experiments and analyse results.

Results UCAS points: A = 56 | B = 48 | C = 32 | D = 24 | E = 16. Student will gain in-depth understanding of food science, nutrition, and their application in real-world contexts. You will explore the relationship between diet and health, food safety, and the development of innovative food products, whilst combining theory with practical skills.
