World Challenge Part VIII

Day 7 – The local volunteers came to say goodbye to us just before we left Padang Kemunting; I know we all already miss Sulong. We all sat in a circle and expressed our gratitude for how welcoming and warming they were to us.
After leaving the turtle-friendly village we stopped halfway on the way to Malacca to top up on some fruit, such as apples, oranges and watermelon. Then, upon arriving in Malacca, we all had lunch and showered before a walking tour that Ollie had arranged for us.
The first stop was Cheng Hoo Teng Temple, the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia, which was stunning to see with all of its decorative features. Next up was the Church of Saint Paul, built in 1566 to 1590, which was reformed by the Dutch during the Dutch restoration.
Being limited on time, we walked over to the floating mosque, where we able to get a good view of it whilst prayer was going on. On our way back we stopped off for dinner at a Thai-inspired restaurant and then got some treats from McDonald’s where the menu was completely different!
It was a spectacular day where we walked over 12km before our early get-up, ready for the rainforest!
