World Challenge Part IX – The Taman Negara.

These past 3 days have been a challenge to everyone, both physically and mentally. The first night we had dinner at a local restaurant that overlooked the Taman Negara River as we all settled into the tents and immense humidity. We spent the evening playing card games and seeing all different types of insects and butterflies, much bigger than ones in the UK!
The first trek was to Teresek Hill and the Canopy Walk, which involved a lot of climbing and physical endurance. Some of us were able to face our fears through these few days with bugs, boats, heights and being a completely different environment to England. We even had monkeys pay us a visit by passing through the trees of our campsite!
The next day was a 7km walk which was slippery and wet due to the night rainfall. It felt like an obstacle course and involved having the mental stamina to push past the leeches and ant colonies. The trek ended at the oldest tree in the Taman Negara, which is over 500 years old, where we then took a 10-15 minute boat ride down the river back to camp.
We had dinner at the same restaurant as before and woke up all ready to leave the leeches behind!
