Sports Day 2024
After the decision to move Sports Day from Monday, Wednesday was a busy morning setting up for Sports Day; the students were armed with glitter and face paint and the House mascots were ready and raring to go!
Mr Ford opened Sports Day in between the smoke cannons representing the houses and the students were off! Team events were up first and there was some tough competition in all sports and some monumental wins in the football competitions. The sun was shining and just before break Mr Ford led the school in a dance masterclass with all of the students joining in with some well-known songs. The songs continued into break, with some particularly impressive dance skills on show from both the girls and the boys, all of them embracing the Sports Day spirit.
After break students entered into the individual athletics events and the most anticipated event of the year was about to take place – the egg and spoon race! This was the most popular event by far and there were some worthy winners. We mustn’t forget the traditional events that took place – there were events for everyone to take part in.
Dancing our way into lunch time, the staff had a tough job on their hands to judge the flag-making competition, which demonstrated some extraordinary talent by our students.
After lunch, the students gathered and the big relays took place, before the chanting and screaming increased for the eagerly anticipated staff relay. With a strong start it looked as though the ECT Teachers were going to take the win, but a big finish from Mr Green meant that Mrs Young, Mrs Harvey and Mr Lal were the champions.
After last year the challenge was on and the sixth form took position to beat the staff in the annual tug of war!
The day ended with huge numbers of students receiving medals for their outstanding efforts and talents throughout the year. The big Sports Day cup was held by Mrs Laxton and Mr Slim, while Mr Ford thanked students for their efforts. Malvern house were awarded champions of Sports Day with a huge record win, leaving Kinver in second and Bredon in first.
A huge thank you to all students who took part, a huge effort was made and an amazing day had by all. A massive thank you to our Heads of House, Mr Sweeney, Miss Coleman and Mr Downing, not forgetting our House mascots. Last but not least, a huge thank you to Mrs Chinn, Miss Coleman and Mrs Brooks for organising a fantastic day! Competition is already on for Sports Day 2025!
