Parental Bulletin – 6th June 2025

MESSAGE FROM THE HEADTEACHER

Dear Parents and Carers,

WELCOME BACK to parents/carers and students, to the final half term of the academic year. Time really does fly, and it seems like this academic year has gone by in a flash. I must say, this is one of my favourite half terms of the academic year, as the calendar is packed with events and activities that celebrate success, reward achievement and progress and allow memorable experiences for students throughout the next 7 weeks.

This half term, please save the date of Tuesday 15th July for our summer rewards evening, which is our biggest rewards event in the school calendar, and at this evening we award not just our Excellence for All awards, but our subject prizes and special prizes. There will be VIP guests, canapes and mocktails!! We really look forward to celebrating with you all and urge you to save the date, in the hope that your child is receiving an award of some description.

Also, this half term, we get ready to welcome our new intake and their parents/carers from middle schools, we will run cultural capital trips, host our annual sports day and enjoy our Year 11 leavers prom. We, of course, look forward to sharing all these events on our social media channels and you will obviously also hear about them all here in the parent bulletin.

This week, my highlights of the week have included welcoming our Year 11 and 13 examination year groups and seeing them approach the second half of their exams with the same attitude as they did the first half. We remain extremely proud of them, and we are urging them to stay focussed and keep going – not long now!!

Also, this week, I gathered my senior leadership team to plan the school development priorities and calendar for 2025-26. I can’t thank my fellow leaders enough; they are a talented group of leaders, and I can’t wait to unveil our plans for the next stage in our journey. I also had the pleasure of handing out lots of YOU’RE AMAZING POSTCARDS to my staff, with handwritten thank you’ s for going the extra mile for our students. Our staff are amazing, and I thought it important to spend a moment in this week’s bulletin thanking them for all their efforts.

This week, I returned back from the half term break to the news that the school had been successful in its bid for £1.2 million pounds worth of CIF funding (condition improvement funding) from the Department for Education. In the current national educational landscape, school budgets are getting squeezed more and more and it is only with bidding for additional funding that you can hope to create a safe and happy learning environment for students and staff.

The funding that we have been successful in securing will be used primarily to replace significant numbers of doors, glazing and fire detection systems in our oldest buildings, to ensure that we are compliant with fire safety regulations.

Every week, we remind parents/carers and politely ask, that you work with us to ensure that your child is in school every day, unless they are extremely unwell or there are other exceptional circumstances. We would also ask that you work with us to ensure they arrive well ahead of 8.40am and that they present to school each day in immaculate school uniform. If you would like support or guidance with any of these things, please speak to the relevant Head of Year or Pastoral Manager and we will be happy to support you. If we make any adjustments this summer term in our uniform due to hot weather conditions, we will let you know. However, for now, students should wear full school uniform, but they are welcome to remove their blazer in class.

I am looking forward to sharing news from around the school next week.

CONTACTING SCHOOL

As many of you will have heard on the school answer phone message and to re-iterate Mr Ford’s comments, we receive an exceptionally high volume of calls on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity either to answer a high percentage of these calls or to listen to all voice messages left.  We would therefore urge you to email the relevant person/people you wish to contact.  Not only does this ensure that we have a written trail of communication between you and school, but it also means that the person you wish to speak to is guaranteed to receive your message.
