Parental Bulletin – 21st March 2025

MESSAGE FROM THE HEADTEACHER

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all enjoying the nicer weather. As I sit writing this week’s parent bulletin, the sun is bursting through my office window, which always results in everyone feeling a little better and definitely encourages the Happiness element of HEART.

This week has been another excellent week and there have been many highlights that have embodied our HEART values. It was lovely to receive some of the Level 2 and Level 3 BTEC unit grades this week and see the hard work of our students in Years 11 and 13 vocational subjects paying off. Students in Year 11 started their tutor time intervention groups this week and have been benefitting from additional supported revision, which will undoubtedly help them to feel more confident in weaker areas from the second mock examinations.

In the personal development world this week, two of the highlights must be the speak out workshops and the Year 9 House Dragons’ Den event. The speak out workshops ran on Thursday for which an external company came into school to work with our students on their oracy skills linked to being able to present publicly. This is a skill that is so crucial in many professions and therefore was such a worthwhile experience for our students. The Year 9 Dragons’ Den event was a massive whole year group event, where in their house teams, students had to design a brand of trainers and an associated marketing strategy. The students were brilliant and demonstrated some real business acumen alongside high levels of creativity. The house team and staff judges were extremely impressed.

Finally, it was also an honour to meet with our cadets and celebrate them passing their most recent assessments in drill, gun craft and first aid. Congratulations cadets, we are all very proud of you.

Every week, we remind parents/carers and politely ask, that you work with us to ensure that your child is in school every day, unless they are extremely unwell or there are other exceptional circumstances. We would also ask that you work with us to ensure they arrive well ahead of 8.40am and that they present to school each day in immaculate school uniform. If you would like support or guidance with any of these things, please speak to the relevant Head of Year or Pastoral Manager and we will be happy to support you.

I am looking forward to sharing news from around the school next week.

Mr Ford

CONTACTING SCHOOL

As many of you will have heard on the school answer phone message and to re-iterate Mr Ford’s comments, we receive an exceptionally high volume of calls on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity either to answer a high percentage of these calls or to listen to all voice messages left.  We would therefore urge you to email the relevant person/people you wish to contact.  Not only does this ensure that we have a written trail of communication between you and school, but it also means that the person you wish to speak to is guaranteed to receive your message.
