PARENTAL BULLETIN – 10 FEBRUARY 2023
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another great week at Trinity! Spring is definitely in the air and the beautiful weather has provided the backdrop for a fantastic week of excellent educational opportunities. This week we feel very privileged to have appointed Ruth Bennett as our new Assistant Headteacher Behaviour and Attendance. Ruth has a vast amount of experience in the world of Pastoral Care, and will be a huge asset to the school. Ruth is looking forward to meeting parents and carers in due course. This vacancy was created as Lucy Green, the current postholder, is moving across to lead a new alternative curriculum experience at the school for a small number of students who require a more specialised curriculum. Lucy is an expert in this field, and we look forward to sharing news of this with you soon.
In other news, this week we launched our World Challenge opportunity for the current Year 11 students to travel to Malaysia, we held our Year 9 Brain Training clinics to develop students’ ability to understand how they learn and we conducted Options Interviews for Year 9 students to support them to choose their courses for next year.
Year 10 students attended their second cultural capital experience to Birmingham on mass and Year 11 students attended the Passport to Success in record numbers!! This week it really feels like our mission of creating EXCELLENCE FOR ALL continues to be realised.
Please may I take the opportunity to remind parents/carers of the important ingredients to ensure that your son/daughter continues to be successful this term;
Attendance – in our ongoing quest to ensure students enjoy educational success, we must ensure that students attend school every day. Please ensure this is the case. If your son/daughter is unwell, please follow the advice in the attendance policy which advises you which conditions constitute your son/daughter missing school.
Uniform – please ensure that your son/daughter has impeccable school uniform with no variations to the published uniform policy on our website. May I specifically mention avoiding branded jumpers of any description. Jumpers should be plain black and without a school logo.
Rewards – we are very keen to see as many students achieve awards at our next EXCELLENCE FOR ALL assemblies at the end of Spring Term. Please ensure that you encourage your son/daughter to earn as many house points as possible as the more house points they earn, the greater the milestone they will achieve.
Mobile Phones – please can parents/carers support us to ensure that our students manage their mobile phones well and comply with our mobile phone policy. PLEASE DO NOT PHONE YOUR STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY AS THIS MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MANAGE MOBILE PHONE USAGE. IF YOUR SON/DAUGHTER CALLS YOU WITH AN ISSUE, PLEASE DIRECT THEM TO THE RELEVANT HEAD OF YEAR OR PASTORAL MANAGER OR CALL THE SCHOOL AND WE WILL SUPPORT YOU. I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS SUPPORT FROM OUR PARENT BODY.
Have a fantastic weekend when it comes and thank you for your ongoing support.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR TIMETABLE
Please find the latest version attached.
In our drive to broaden our vocabulary, please find our new T2 Workable Word of the week – ‘FUNCTION’ – In order for this school to work many things have to happen. In the right order. At the right time. If they didn’t, then it would not ‘function’. Think of the heating. The lighting. The computer systems. The people needed to run the place. Everyone has a ‘function’ – including you. If you were not here there would be no point in anyone else being here either! THS would not ‘function’. We use the word ‘function’ as a NOUN and a VERB.
Here are some ways you could use the word:
“The function of the school minibus is to take students to sports matches.” (noun)
“That rugby player’s brain is not functioning normally after the big tackle.” (verb)
Where does the word come from?
Mid-16th century: from French fonction, from Latin functio(n- ), from fungi ‘perform’.
