Dear Parents, Carers and students

I hope you are staying safe, and managing to maintain some sense of normality despite the current situation. I know the staff have been really please by the quality of work that many of you have managed to produce over recent weeks, and I wanted to pass on my own thanks to you and your families for working so hard in such strange circumstances. You should all be very proud.

A big thank you to the staff, who continue to pull out all the stops to try and make this all work as best as it can. The pastoral staff are trying to make contact with all of you, a huge undertaking from them. This is in order to support you, as well as teachers, in keeping learning going remotely as well as checking on your wellbeing.

Just a reminder that in addition to the work being sent by staff, there are a number of resources and links on our website. Students can use these to supplement the work staff are setting and to extend their learning if they wish.

There has been a vast amount of unhelpful speculation about the lockdown ending, and when schools will be open fully again. Speculation just adds to the uncertainty and causes undue worry for many people. At the current time we have the highest death rate in Europe and social distancing will be part of our lives for many months to come. Please be reassured that when we are told it is the right time to start returning to school, this will be done in a very measured, planned way which will put the safety and wellbeing of all of our community first. There is a lot of talk of how young people are the least affected. This is true, but a school is also a workplace for significant numbers of adults who also need their wellbeing and safety to be a priority. I will, of course, try to give you plenty of notice about our plans, but at the moment we must all continue to do our utmost to protect lives by sticking to the guidance.

Finally, tomorrow is a bank holiday. We will not be setting work or expecting any to be completed. I have told staff to enjoy the VE Day celebrations with their families, which I hope you will be able to do as well.

Stay safe and stay well.

Adrian Ward
