The apprenticeship programme will last for 12 months and you will be based in the whole school workplace so you will gain some fantastic experience in all areas.

Training through HWGTA normally comprises of five days per week in company with one day release on a fortnightly basis to our Training Centre at McKenzie Way, doing an appropriate course of study. A monthly monitoring visit in company will also take place, during which we make ourselves available for discussion about any special training that may be useful to you, and to identify and resolve problems if they arise.

Apprentices generally work towards an NVQ diploma in their chosen vocational area.  In addition, the training programme includes an optional 5-day team building residential course, usually held in April/May each year. Functional Skills qualifications may also need to be undertaken depending on prior qualifications and levels.

  • As directed, undertake a work programme in the Administration and Finance department to develop practical skills and knowledge of administration duties, including (but not limited to):
  • Visitor Reception; dealing with face to face enquiries from visitors, staff and students, visitor management, overseeing Student Receptionists, dealing with deliveries, dealing with incoming and outgoing post , providing cover for full time receptionist when required
  • General Office/Student Support; switchboard, reprographics, staff and student enquiries, production of school documents, hospitality for visitors/meetings
  • Finance Office; dealing with cash, filing, raising purchase orders, processing invoices
  • In all tasks to use databases and information technology to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner

The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the school as may be reasonably expected, without changing the general character of duties or level of responsibility entailed.

    • Ensure full area of responsibility is clean, appropriately presented and stocked at all times
    • Understanding and assisting in the ordering of food and equipment
    • Become fully trained in the operation of relevant equipment reporting any maintenance issues in line with procedures
    • Operate the cashless till points as required throughout service, ensuring correct procedures are used
    • Ensure that COSHH, Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations are adhered to and any incidents are reported in line with procedures
    • Adhoc duties to support the catering team

  • Learn about the hardware and software used in school in order to
  • Deal with day to day staff and student IT problems; log issues and communicate with staff and students about progress
  • Assist the Network Manager in operating the IT resources of the school in the short and medium term to ensure they are used efficiently and effectively
  • Promote the use of IT in the school
  • Assist the Network Manager in keeping an inventory of School IT and other resources

  • Assist in preparing resources to aid student learning, under the guidance of colleagues
  • Assist departments in delivering enrichment/extra-curricular activities
  • Work with colleagues to facilitate and promote the use of the School Library, including the issue and return of books and resources and overseeing the printing/copying facilities

 MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

With full training and supervised by the Site Manager you will work as part of the Site Team in providing support services to the school by:

  1. Maintain the security of the premises by opening and closing gates, repairing doors, latches and fences, to maintain a safe environment
  2. Ensure outside areas are kept free from litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins, etc. to maintain a clean and tidy environment
  3. Undertake daily and seasonal maintenance of the site and equipment, inside and out, including changing light bulbs, taps, clock batteries, door locks, woodwork, decorating, clearing drains and toilets to ensure a safe environment is maintained
  4. Maintain adequate stock of materials and supplies (light bulbs, batteries, salt, etc.), to meet the school’s needs
  5. Support the Site Manager in facilities management by completing required periodic checks and associated record keeping
  6. Attend training as required and assist in the training of other premises support staff as directed
  7. General porterage duties including movement of furniture and equipment within Health and Safety guidance, i.e. Manual Handling Regulations
  8. Undertake simple gardening maintenance jobs e.g. grass cutting, care of planted areas, pruning shrubs back or removing low level branches that pose a danger to children
  9. Be responsible for chair arrangements for all school functions
  10. Observe and, where possible assist, the Site Manager in more specialist/technical tasks
  11. The use of powered equipment may be required
  12. Undertake additional tasks, being able to work on their own initiative
  13. Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and other school policies
